We are fortunate to be in a beautiful part of Highgate village where the locals are warm and welcoming, this has helped us to form strong links with members of our local community.
We like to buy our supplies from local shops and endeavour to take the children to buy our fruit, vegetables and flowers from Harington’s stall on a Thursday. Harington’s is a local charity who aim to give young adults with learning difficulties/disabilities vocational training.
We are members of the Highgate Society where our children regulary visit the library to borrow and return books linked to our themes.
We make good use of our local Waterlow Park. There the children enjoy nature walks, bird watching and visiting the insect hotel.
Within our church setting we help to look after the flowers and plants in the front garden. We also arrange visits with our children to attend cultural showcases in the upper hall such as the children’s Soul Gospel choir and Baby Mozart.
The parents of Highgate Montessori very kindly donate tinned food /clothing which is given to the local food/clothing bank for those families or individuals who are struggling.
We also enjoy the company of the elderly within the local community who regularly visit us and enjoy spending time with our children.
Once a year we go to the local theatre or invite a local drama group to showcase a production at the school.
Over the year we also endeavour to invite the following agencies in to chat to the children.
- Guide Dogs UK
- Dogs Trust
- Cat Protection
- Camden Recycling
- British Sign Language Association
